Buy Me Love BY Ric Aw

First Prize

A kway chap hawker decides to buy love through a mail order bride service. The awkward couple soon find themselves trying to make sense of their unconventional marriage.

Since graduating with a Bachelor of Media from Macquire University, Sydney, Ric has produced various television projects. He made his debut as a director with the telefeature Ang Tau Mui for Arts Central. Ric currently produces and directs at The Creative Room, which he owns with two other partners.


Closer Apart by Victric Thng

Second Prize

A pair of young lovers find themselves in a strangled relationship, only to realize that sometimes being apart is necessary to grow closer.

A graduate of Temasek Polytechnic, Victric’s short films have been well received at several festivals. Lamentation won 2nd prize at the SAE Digital Short Film Competition and was selected as a finalist for the Asian New Force Category in the Hong Kong Independent Film & Video Awards, while Locust recently received the Renault Samsung Award at the Pusan Asian Short Film Festival 2004.


Overhead Clouds by Yeo Lee Nah

Third Prize

Unable to find employment after college, a man finds himself in an unusual situation when a dark cloud begins to hang over his head feeding off his energy.

Having received a Bachelor’s in Scene Design (Theatre) and a Master’s in Experimental Animation (Film & Video) from the California Institute of the Arts, Lee Nah has since worked on several film projects including MediaCorp Raintree Pictures’ One Last Dance as Art Director. Her first animated film, Crocodile Journals, screened at the prestigious Annecy International Animated Film Festival 2005 in France.

12:17 by Kenny Tan

First Prize

Featuring the music of two local composers, 12:17 revolves around three groups of troubled individuals, each seeking their own form of resolutions. Strangers they may seem, they are very much interconnected in this cycle of urban tribulations.

Currently serving National Service, 23-year old Kenny first handled a Hi-8 camera in secondary school. A graduate of Temasek Polytechnic’s School of Design, his works have won awards including 2003 MDA Course Gold Medal for Best Final Year Project, the Student Creative Awards (Bronze), Best Film (Tertiary) at the 2003 Hive Film Festival, and the Judges’ Choice Award at the Fly By Night Video Challenge 2004.


Zo Peng by Jacen Tan

Second Prize

Three friends help one another overcome their personal confinements, relationship and work problems during compulsory national service.

Jacen is a 22-year old graphic journalist with Singapore Press Holdings.


Health Warning by Sim Chin Sun

Third Prize

Investigating officer TK is tasked to solve a sudden increase in cases of Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndrome. Uncovering new clues at every turn, he discovers the unnatural truth behind the mystery.

Sim Chin Sun is a 34-year old filmmaker with Footage Films.


Kalah Atau Menang by Donny Prasetyo Utomo

Merit Award

What happens when two gangs are unleashed on an unsuspecting village,
to settle an argument by their two leaders?

A Creative Supervisor at Zerosmith Production, 26 year-old Donny resides in Yogykarta, Indonesia. This is his first entry to a film competition.


Tokyo Confidential by Anthony Koithra

Merit Award

A high-speed rush through the crazy, wonderful and chaotic city of Tokyo. To live in Tokyo is to experience life in the fast-forward.

A Market Data Specialist at Deutsche Bank AG, 26 years old Anthony has done several short films including “'One Night In Tsukiji” (2005) which won one of the three grand prizes at National Geographic's My Asia Digital Film competition; the animated “Back Alley Tag” (2004); and “Cellshocked” (2003) which was a finalist at the Evian Starlight Cinema Short Film Festival.


Master of Gambling (Mahjong) by Kenny Yong

Merit Award

The University of Xuan Yuan offers a master degree in Mahjong, for those looking to grasp the advanced skills of gambling.

A lecturer at Temasek Polytechnic, 25-year old Kenny graduated with a Bachelor of Multimedia (Educational Multimedia Production) from Griffith University and Master of Design Science (Digital Media) from the University of Sydney. He won him a few school awards such as best compositor, and excellence in digital media production there.


Screen by Marcus Lim

Merit Award

A jaded, conniving electronic salesman imparts his wisdom and trade secrets to a new colleague, while reminiscing about a past encounter with a customer.

A student at Kings College, London, majoring in English Literature and Film Studies, 22-year old Marcus has made several short films. His scripts have also won awards at the MDA National Scriptwriting Competition 2003 and 2004, and the Theatreworks 24Hour Playwriting competition.


One Step by Chan Wai Hoe

Merit Award

Sam’s marriage has fallen apart since her daughter passed away. She decides to rebuild her family and marriage after a chance encounter with an old nanny.

A graduate of Nanyang Technological University’s School of Mechnical and Production Engineering, 25 year-old Wai Hoe does video and photography work with Tzu Chi Foundation.


I Dream by Loh Wei Liang

Merit Award

A teen who is unable to enjoy a normal teenage life finds solace in his coma, as a result of a simple conversation from a group of boys outside his ward.

A student at Singapore Polytechnic pursuing a Diploma in Media and Communications (Business Faculty), 18 years old Wei Liang’s interest in filmmaking began during his first year when he did a video for the school library with friends. He has since done four short films.


Lau Sai by Chai Yee Wei

Merit Award

Two friends strike up a conversation while they are in the toilet, and come to a revelation about the girls they both like.

Owner of restaurant Curry Favor/Moonriver Café, 29-year old Yee Wei graduated from the Business School of University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He also does wedding videography and is working on his next short film.
